okay so nighttime skincare.
honestly? this used to be the step i skipped the most.
i'd come home tired. maybe had a few drinks. maybe just didn't feel like it. and i'd just fall into bed with my makeup on.
terrible. i know.
but then my skin started looking really bad. breakouts. dullness. just blah.
so i finally got my act together. and here's what i figured out.
first thing. take off your makeup.
if you wear makeup, this is non-negotiable.
like seriously. don't sleep in it.
i've done it. we've all done it. but it's bad for your skin.
use a makeup remover. oil cleanser. micellar water. whatever works for you.
be gentle around your eyes. that skin is delicate.
if something isn't coming off easily, don't scrub. just let the remover sit for a second. then wipe gently.
once the makeup is off, you're ready for the rest.
now wash your face.
after makeup removal, you still need to cleanse.
there's still stuff on your skin. leftover product. oil. sweat. dirt from the day.
use a gentle cleanser. nothing harsh.
if your skin is dry, get something hydrating. if it's oily, get something light.
lukewarm water. not hot. hot water dries out your skin.
massage it in gently. no aggressive scrubbing.
pat dry with a clean towel. don't rub.
hydration step. serum or whatever.
this is optional but nice.
after cleansing, your skin is ready to absorb stuff.
if you use a serum, now's the time. vitamin c. hyaluronic acid. whatever works for your skin.
but you don't need multiple serums. one is enough.
if you're new to this, just skip it. moisturizer is more important.
moisturizer. don't skip it.
this is the most important step.
your skin loses water while you sleep. moisturizer helps keep it in.
if you have dry skin, use something thick and creamy.
if you have oily skin, use something light. gel or lotion.
just use something. anything.
i used to skip moisturizer because i was oily. dumbest thing ever. my skin got oilier because it was dehydrated.
don't make my mistake.
lip balm. such a small thing.
your lips get dry at night too.
especially if you sleep with your mouth open. or in a dry room. or in winter.
just put on some lip balm before bed.
takes two seconds. makes a huge difference.
i keep one on my nightstand so i don't forget.
hand cream. why not?
your hands go through a lot during the day.
water. soap. sun. cold. all of it dries them out.
put on some hand cream before bed.
takes five seconds. your hands will feel so much softer.
and your nails and cuticles will look better too.
clean pillowcase. this matters.
think about it.
your face is on your pillow for like eight hours.
if your pillowcase is dirty, all that dirt and oil is going back on your face.
change it regularly. once a week at least.
if you use heavy products or sleep with makeup on (don't do that), change it even more often.
such a small thing. makes such a difference.
give your eyes a break.
your eyes are tired too. especially if you stare at screens all day.
put your phone away before bed. seriously.
the blue light messes with your sleep.
read a book instead. or listen to music. or just sit quietly.
your eyes will thank you. your skin will too. less blue light means better sleep means better skin.
sleep. actual sleep.
this is the most important beauty step.
no serum or cream can fix lack of sleep.
keep your room comfortable. dark. quiet. cool.
your skin repairs itself while you sleep. let it do its job.
don't use too many products.
this is such a common mistake.
people think more products = better skin. not true.
using too many things can irritate your skin. and you won't know which one is causing the problem.
start simple. cleanser. moisturizer. maybe one serum.
add things slowly. one at a time. give your skin time to adjust.
if you're unsure about something, see a dermatologist. they actually know what they're talking about.
consistency is key.
this is the boring but true part.
you don't need a complicated routine. you need a routine you actually do.
even if it's just five minutes. remove makeup. cleanse. moisturize. lip balm.
do it every night. it becomes a habit.
i used to skip all the time. now it feels weird if i don't do it.
takes time to build the habit. but it's worth it.
so here's the thing.
nighttime skincare doesn't have to be complicated.
remove makeup. cleanse. moisturize. lip balm. clean pillowcase. sleep.
that's really it.
you don't need expensive stuff. you don't need ten steps.
just simple things done consistently.
and honestly? it's kind of nice.
those five minutes at the end of the day. just you. taking care of yourself.
no phones. no stress. just calm.
it becomes something you look forward to.
who knew, right?
yeah so that's it.
keep it simple. keep it consistent. listen to your skin.
don't chase every trend. don't buy every product.
just take care of yourself. gently. every night.
your skin will thank you.
and you'll wake up looking better.
promise.
